Now that so many of the summer fruiting crops are in, I thought it would be good to mention storage temperatures for many of these.
All of our greens, most roots, and most herbs store best at refrigerator temperature, which is 0-5C. Beans and peas also like to be refrigerated.
Cucumbers, summer squash, eggplant, tomatoes all store best around 10C. Our storeroom on the farm varies a little on the hot days and gets up to 20C, but in general the cooler 10-15 is ideal. Cured onions, garlic, potatoes (coming soon!) and winter squash also store well at 10C.
Another coming soon - melons, which store best at refrigerator temperature, other than watermelons, which prefer the 10C cool room.
Basil and Shiso are best kept at "room temperature", considered around 20C, standing in water like a bouquet of flowers.
